A Short Overview Of Lesson Plan Writing
Lesson plan writing is an essential skill for a teacher. When the teacher is organised before entering the classroom it’s a lot easier to organize the students. In case of a teacher being absent at short notice then having a plan prepared in advance means that a substitute can easily take over and the students education will not suffer.
Before considering plans for each individual lesson an overview of the whole year ought to be done. Days when normal lessons will not take place should be blocked out and allowances made for emergencies and revision. Then the curriculum that needs to be taught can be divided up among the teaching days that are left.
When writing the plan for each individual lesson a good start is to consider what the goals of that lesson are. For example a section of the textbook may want to be covered, a practical experiment performed, or written work completed. Home work can be planned. A good planning document will also include how it’ll be checked that the pupils have learned what they should have.
When the teacher knows what should be be learned, they can plan how it’ll be learned. The plan will include the activities that the learners will be taking part in. These plans should take account of the different ways that pupils learn. The plans should also account for the different speeds of learning that the pupils will have.
Planning the materials needed is a necessary step. The students may want to bring in items, if so they must be told and reminded in advance and contingency plans made for individuals who forget.
Lesson Plan Writing shouldn’t be a onetime activity. The plans and results of each lesson should be reviewed. Some adjustment of plans may want to be done for future classes in the course, or the plans reviewed for when the course if run again.
