Student loan? What Student Loan? Try Distance Learning instead
Imagine graduating without the nagging thought at the back of your mind that you’ve got a student loan to repay.
It’s not all bad news though; there are other ways of getting a degree for less money, for free and even degrees that can see you earning serious money, the answer is distance learning.
Distance learning, or learning at a distance, means studying away from schools, universities or colleges. Usually this involves studying at home or work and having your course materials such as DVDs, books sent to you and being given access to online resources and virtual communities.
Unlike more conventional forms of further education, distance learning gives you the flexibility of studying where and when you want instead of having someone else’s schedule imposed on you.
You can complete your degree course as fast – or as slowly – as you want, with no pressure on you except the pressure you put on yourself to finish it. Two years? Six years? Whatever. Whenever.
Having this type of flexibility gives you the option to work alongside studying; a survey showed that 70% of Open University students work and study for a degree at the same time.
There are many providers of distance learning courses with the likes of The Open University and RDI who offer fantastic incentives to young people to study via distance learning.
The Open University for example, allow students who live at home and earn less than 16,500 per year, to do their courses for free. They will not even take your parent’s income into the equation, which means you don’t get punished for your parent’s salaries.
RDI (Resource Development International) offers students a choice of more than 40 different qualifications in thirteen different subjects – from nine established universities. Their course are available over the Internet and mobile phone allowing you to really study whenever and wherever suits you best!
By studying via distance learning over a campus-based university, you could save up to 42,791. This together with the flexibility of getting your degree in more comfort and at your own speed are very strong contenders to any traditional university route.
