The Most Enjoyable Adventure Films From The 90s

When it comes to action films, the 1990s was a revolutionary decade. It was the start of computer generated effects becoming commonplace in films. We saw some pretty new stuff on the screen, and Toy Story was a game changer for animation, but we will not focus on Pixar cartoons.

Here are some of my favorite action films from the 90s.

James Cameron made some serious cash in the 90s with Terminator 2:Judgement Day. This movie still holds up the “wow” test. Basically what that means is you can put this movie on today and still be wowed by the effects.

True Lies, also directed by James Cameron was another epic action movie. Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as a secret agent and Jamie Lee Curtis as the oblivious wife, this movie personifies 1990s action. Explosions, helicopters, airplanes oh my.

Another great action film from this decade was Demolition Man, starring Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes. In a futuristic world where White Castle is the only fast food franchise left and people get tickets for cursing on the street, Sly is cryogenically unfrozen to take down Snipes.

Quite possibly my favorite action of all time came out in 1995 and it was none other than The Rock. This was Nicholas Cage at his finest. Any time you combine 1990s Nicholas Cage, Jerry Bruckheimer, Michael Bay and Alcatraz, it is bound to be a thrilling ride.

Face Off, starring Nicholas Cage and John Travolta is an Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) action flick at its finest. This movie has more memorable quotes than most action films of that decade for me. Both characters play each other, and the result is fantastic.

I’ll include Armageddon on this list as well, even though I hate to admit how much I love this movie. Yes, its cheesy, but very enjoyable.
